Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

A woman has sparked a fierce debate on the internet after revealing that her mum served frozen leftovers that were eight months old at her sister’s wedding, in a bid to save money.

In a post shared on the popular Reddit forum, “Am I The A**hole?”, a user who goes by the name u/Tasty-Watercress-190 began discussing her wedding which took place eight months ago.

The 26-year-old noted that since there was a lot of leftover food, she had planned on donating it to the soup kitchen she sometimes works at until her mother stepped in and took most of the leftovers with her.

She began talking about her sister Callie’s recent wedding – remarking that the “whole thing” was planned by her mother. She then claimed that she and her sibling had little involvement in the preparations, so all they “had to do was show up where [they] were told and party”.

While she described the ceremony as “beautiful,” the woman went on to share that she noticed something “odd” about the food selection at the event.

“The food looked eerily familiar,” she wrote. “Like, identical to what I had for my wedding except for a little more dried out and sad.”

The poster then wrote that when they asked their mum about the food, the parent revealed that the buffet was from her earlier wedding – which took place eight months ago.

“She happily told me she ‘saved a fortune’ by unfreezing the food from my wedding to serve to the guests now,” the woman penned.

“I was horrified and immediately voiced my concerns about safety. She got upset and said I was acting like a snob and should be happy the food wasn’t going to waste. I argued that it was never going to be wasted, but she wouldn’t hear it.”

The Reddit user noted that when she told Callie the news, she was “horribly embarrassed” and said that she initially didn’t question their mum’s involvement with the wedding food finance “because she didn’t want to foot the bill”.

In addition to this, the poster’s sister thanked her for the warning, and from there she and her husband went on to “discreetly” tell some of the guests to “be wary of the food”.

The woman said that while the “rest of the night was fine,” she has since been criticized by her relatives for speaking to the guests about the food.

As of 6 June, the Reddit post has more than 10,8K upvotes, with many comments siding with the woman, praising her for warning guests about the food.

One user wrote: “OMG!!! It’s not that it was stored frozen for eight months; it’s that it sat on a buffet table for god knows how long at your wedding, then in your mother’s car, before it was frozen. This is not only tacky but super dangerous.”

A third user said: “That was next level cheapskate behaviour from your mom and she could have made everyone very sick.”

A fourth added: ”I’ve worked at jobs that require food handling, and the bottom line is that it is not safe for food to be between 42 and 139 degrees Fahrenheit for an extended period of time.”

The woman later added an edit to her viral post, clarifying that her sister originally wanted to do a courthouse wedding with her husband, who she’s been with for 10 years. However, she claimed that her mother then “begged” her to do some kind of event.

“So, she had a small wedding with only 50 people,” she explained. “My sister HATES planning and people, so she let my mum do everything.”
