We don’t need to tell you that one of the greatest debates of our time is ‘should you keep ketchup in the fridge or pantry?’
It’s something people have passionate opinions about, and an issue that has no doubt caused debates in kitchens up and down the country.
But now Heinz has but an end to arguments once and for all by revealing the correct way to store ketchup.
Ooooh, some of you lot are not gonna like this.
We can understand the pros and cons of both storage methods.
Refrigerated ketchup adds a nice cool dip to offset your hot chips, which some people prefer, whilst others are in favour a room temperature condiment, claiming that’s how you taste the true flavour of the tomatoes.
Heinz is well aware of the divide this causes, so before revealing the right way to do things, the brand published a poll on its social media.
The poll, conducted on the official Heinz Twitter, found that 53.6 percent of the 2,342 people polled believed the condiment should be stored in the fridge, as supposed to 46.4 percent who favoured the pantry.
But who was right…? You ready? Once you know this information all naysayers must officially cease their moaning.
Should you keep ketchup in the fridge or pantry?
According to Heinz, there’s only one correct answer to this one, and that’s…..the fridge.
Yup, the American condiment brand said in a tweet: “FYI: Ketchup. goes. in. the. fridge!!!”
Well, that’s that then.
Not only should you ketchup be refrigerated, but it should also be consumed eight weeks after opening it (so, erm, tell that to your mate who’s had a bottle lingering in their cupboard for the last two years…)
As you can imagine, reaction to Heinz’ tweet has been a rollercoaster, with many people determined not to face facts.
“Heinz don’t even know where their product should be stored,” wrote one person defiantly.
Heinz don’t even know where their product should be stored 😭

Whilst another shared a meme which simply said: “Wrong, wrong, wrong.”

“No it doesn’t. You stick to production and I’ll deal with the consumption,” a third chimed in, a little bit sassily.
As a fourth chimed in: “Oh yeah?? who are you to tell me where to put my ketchup?? the ketchup police??”

Despite the furore, many felt vindicated by the confirmation.
“AMEN!!!,” someone else said in reply.
Whilst a fellow ketchup fridge-storer said: “Of course it does!”
“Yes Heinz!,” a third wrote. “Can you tell my boyfriend to do so…?”
What on earth will we debate in the kitchen now? How about the correct components of a fry-up… (yikes, what have we started!)
