An online debate has kicked off after a passenger on an airplane refused to stop eating meat whilst sat next to a vegetarian.

So certain he was that he wasn't in the wrong, the passenger took to Reddit mid-flight, to ask the public for validation.

He explained that his journey was eight hours, and his first flight only offered him a "small cracker pack".

"During the connection, I only had barely enough time to run from one end of the airport to the other. Once I got to my connecting gate, I found out I had enough time to order food but not eat it," he said.

"I checked with the gate agent to see if I can bring food onboard and she happily reassured me that I could. I went and got a burger, fries, and a drink."

When the passenger was on the flight, he put his tray down and started to eat – but he added that the woman next to him wasn't too happy.

"This is when the lady sitting next to me told me she doesn’t eat meat or fried foods and the smell of my burger and fries are making her sick," he continued.

"At [first] I ignored her and kept on eating but she complained louder. I finally told her I bought the food after checking with the gate agent and I’m hungry so she’s out of luck.

"She called the flight attendant and was told that I’m well within my rights to eat food that was bought at the airport."

The man was defiant that he was right when it came to airport rules, but wanted to poll the public seeing as the woman was "still glaring" at him.

"This is a plane, not this woman's personal living room," said one person over on Reddit. "Go ahead and eat. Say mmmmm and offer her a fry."

While another wrote: "Public transportation sucks, but eating on a plane is normal and acceptable so unfortunately it was her thing to deal with."

"Does she avoid all restaurants that serve meat and fired foods? Doubtful," said a third.

There were some that sympathised with the veggie passenger, though.

"Nobody on the plane should have to sit for 8 hours in an enclosed space with a smell that makes them nauseous," wrote another.

A fifth suggested a solution, writing: "Since you’re allowed to bring food in the plane, maybe ask the flight attendant in front of the passenger if there’s someplace you can go just to finish you meal?"

We're yet to uncover whether the passenger took the advice or just carried on scoffing on his burger.

What do you think about this one, folks?
