Eminem donates 400 portions of “Mom’s Spaghetti” to hospital workers in Detroit

In the midst of international uncertainty, the coronavirus has prompted an outpouring of generosity. From small acts of everyday kindness to grand, sweeping gestures, it’s been heartwarming to see that, despite all the adversity, there is growing a sense that we are all in it together. 

As the crisis has deepened, many more fortunate members of society have been compelled to act. Aside from tone-deaf rendition of “Imagine”, Hollywood has been quick to help where it can, with many celebrities making significant personal contributions to the cause. Now, in his home town of Detroit, rap superstar Eminem has been compelled to do the same.

Working through his “Marshall Mathers Foundation”, the former-D12 frontman donated 400 portions of his famed “Mom’s Spaghetti” to workers at the Henry Ford and Detroit receiving hospitals, helping those on the frontline in the fight against the virus. 

Cooked and prepared by the Michigan-based caterers “Union Joints”, the donation is expected to be the first of many as the company puts the infrastructure in place to cope with demand. This is not the first time that Eminem’s organisation has teamed up with Union Joints, doing so back in 2017 at a pop-up shelter in 2017.

The dishes themselves, which were featured on the Henry Ford Health System Instagram account, were inscribed with the words “Thank you frontline caregivers,” and were warmly received by workers. As the caption accompanying the photo explained:

“Our #HeathcareHeroes ‘lost themselves’ in the delicious Mom’s Spaghetti donated by Detroit’s very own, @eminem. Thank you for providing a special meal for our team members!”

Eminem’s notorious “Mom’s Spaghetti” originally became famous thanks to a prominent part in the rapper’s influential 2002 single “Lose Yourself”, which was released to accompany the semi-autobiographical flick “8-Mile”.
