Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

Choosing between fast-food restaurants is like picking your favourite parent. Whichever way you go, you’re bound to end up feeling icky and treacherous as you betray something that you’ve grown up with. No one wants to make that decision.

Fortunately, though most meals are a real catch 22 of deliciousness, the fast-food world occasionally puts tribal differences aside.

These team-ups are the edible equivalent of a Marvel vs DC matchup – pop culture icons coming together to give the fans what they want. When it happens, the only thing to do is cancel your dinner plans and wear something comfortable. Dinner is served.

The latest example of fast-food fusion comes courtesy of two titans. For decades, KFC and Pizza Hut have operated in different quadrants of the deep-fried universe, each catering to completely different audiences. Now, however, they have decided to reach out and join forces, producing a pizza topped with popcorn chicken and made with a KFC gravy sauce.

It really is like all your finger-lickin’ Christmases came true at once, except this hunger-curing hybrid was created to celebrate National Pizza Day on February 9.

In addition to the classic gravy and fried chicken combination, the pie will also feature Pizza Hut’s “Classic Crust” base, as well as toppings of mozzarella and sweet corn. According to photos from the press release, the pizza will also come with its own pots of KFC gravy for dunking.

As ever with announcements that seem too good to be true, there are a few caveats. For instance, the pie will only be available until the 16th of February, and will not be available at all in Northern Ireland. The pizza is also only available in a ‘large’ size, though we assume that that won’t prove too much of an obstacle to enthusiastic fans.

But you better act fast because it will be available online via Pizza Hut Delivery from the 3 to 16 February, and is included as an option in all large pizza deals.

Sometimes, things that sound brilliant on paper, like Batman vs Superman, or Alien vs Predator, end up an abject failure. But, despite being burned before, we can’t see how fried chicken, gravy and pizza doesn’t end up being a roaring success. Here’s hoping our enthusiasm isn’t misplaced.

So, if you want a slice of the action, get yourself over to PizzaHut.co.uk to place your order via the Pizza Hut Delivery between February 3 and February 16 – but be quick before another one bites the crust.
