Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

There is, apparently, nothing that can’t be turned into a crisp. Even if you’re dealing with ingredients that have no business being blended with a potato, the world seems to have an insatiable appetite for bold and bizarre flavours in a starchy grab bag. Some of these combinations can seem seriously scary. Others, however, sound absolutely awesome.

Falling decidedly into the latter category, Lay’s has unveiled the latest member of its wildly popular “Flavor Icons” range. Bringing one of America’s most legendary fast food dishes to life, fans can now get their hands on Nashville Hot Chicken potato chips, proving that if something is truly delicious, it should almost always be converted into a handy snack.

Inspired by the famous “Party Fowl” restaurant in Nashville, Tennessee, the new flavour forms part of a five-strong line-up of tempting treats, all created as an homage to an iconic American restaurant.

Also included as part of the range are Carnitas Street Tacos (inspired by “El Torito” in Los Angeles), Philly Cheesesteak (by “Geno’s Steaks” in Philadelphia), New York Style Pizza (by “Grimaldi’s” in New York City), and Chile Relleno (by Cocina Azul in Alburquerque). For us, however, it’s the fiery heat of Nashville chicken that really promises to get the pulse racing.

Although pairing with one of the most popular potato chip brands in the world is obviously a coup for Party Fowl, it’s not the first time that their menu has found its way into the headlines. Included as part of the restaurant’s brunch selection, for instance, is a 55oz bloody mary, garnished with two whole fried chickens, scotch eggs, okra and avocado. Anyone who can turn that into a crisp deserves a medal.

For anyone eager to get a taste of Lay’s new range, the chips went on sale on July 13th at participating retailers. The Chile Relleno flavour, however, is only set to be available at Walmart and 7-11 while stocks last, so fans would be advised to move quickly.
