Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

For frustrated, time-poor cooks, chicken Kiev might just be the ultimate dinner. Pre-prepared breaded fillets of soft chicken breast, stuffed to bursting with salty garlic and parsley butter – there aren’t many meals that can turn a day from miserable to magnificent quite so quickly.

Although chicken Kievs are obviously brilliant, anyone who has to regularly deal with the washing up knows that there are downsides – namely, how do you deal with the inevitable explosion of green-speckled deliciousness that usually ends up leaking out of your chicken. You could use foil, but where’s the fun in that? Thankfully, one inventive home cook has shown the internet how to turn a butter leak into a blessing.

Posting on Twitter last week, user nefyn92 shared his cunning “life hack” for capturing butter. Killing two delicious birds with one stone, Nefyn advised his followers to “put bread under Kievs to capture garlic butter leakage and make garlic bread.” Mind. Blown.

Understandably, the hack spread faster than seeping Kiev butter on social media, with thousands of people expressing their excitement at the idea. At the time of writing, Nefyn’s original tweet has received over 23,000 likes and 3,500 retweets, proving that there is just as much of an appetite for inadvertent garlic bread as there is for tasty chicken.

Several users heaped praise on the idea, with one writing:

“Now THIS is a life hack. Forget telling me how to cut up 2l bottles of coke to make a new dress or whatever – THIS is what the world needs. I tip my hat to you Sir, because this is bloody genius!”

Others began sharing their own tips for upping your Kiev game. Several suggested cooking the chicken in the same tray as oven chips, creating easy garlic fries. Another shared a photo of bread topped with cheese, taking the whole dish up an indulgent level.

Given that oven-ready Kievs are an easy meal option, you could be forgiven for trying to keep things as simple as possible. But, if you take just a little longer to throw your food in the oven, it’s obvious that the rewards can be well worth it.
