Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

Whether you’re talking cheeseburgers or De La Soul, three will always be the magic number. There’s something about the natural symmetry of a triple threat that makes it so much more satisfying than simply doubling up. Two burger patties are awesome. Three is God-like.

Unfortunately, British burger fans have long been denied the simple pleasure of seeing a trio of stacked patties in the country’s most popular fast food joint. Despite providing triple cheeseburgers in Australia and the US for years, McDonald’s has been curiously reluctant to bring the dish to British shores. That has finally changed.

In news that has sent the franchise’s UK fanbase into total meltdown, McDonald’s revealed that they are finally trialling triple cheeseburgers at 60 restaurant sites across the country. According to multiple reports, should this test prove successful, the sandwiches will then be given a nationwide rollout.

As burger historians will know, this technically isn’t the first time that the UK has had access to the hefty sandwich. Back in 1994, McDonald’s released the essentially identical “Hattrick Burger” as part of their promotion for that year’s FIFA World Cup. Still, 26 years feels like a long enough gap to justify getting excited all over again.

According to a report by The Sun, locations where the burger is available include Worksop, Crystal Peaks, Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Balby, Thorne, Chesterfield, Balborough, Markham Vale, Hillsborough, Tankersley, Woodall Services, Cortonwood, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Kingston-Upon-Hull, Hull, Cleethorpes, Willerby, Ennerdale, Bridlington, Beverley, York, Bilbrough Top, Goole, Selby, Shiptonthorpe, Harrogate, Knaresborough and Scarborough. This might mean quite a serious sandwich commute for some deprived southerners.

Reports indicate that the McDonald’s triple cheeseburger will be available for just £2.39, although prices may differ from branch to branch. Regardless, it definitely promises to be a cost-efficient way to go to town during your next trip to the Golden Arches.
