Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

When you’re mixing ice cream and peanut butter, it’s better to go hard or go home. No one wants a half-arsed blend of slightly-salty-sort-of-sweet semi-frozen soft serve. If you’re working with two outright delicious ingredients, it’s your job to make them sing.

Thankfully, the powers that be at Sonic seem to be taking this responsibility seriously. In one of March’s most exciting announcements, the drive-in specialists unveiled a new duo of Reese’s inspired sweet treats, blending the iconic peanut butter-based brand with ice cream in the best way possible. If you’ve wanted a properly peanutty waffle cone and milkshake, this is the best news you’ll get all year.

Dubbed “Reese’s Overload”, the two new treats deliver everything you could want from ice cream and peanut butter. According to a press release:

“The dreamy Reese’s Overload Waffle Cone starts with a chocolate waffle cone layered with creamy peanut butter and SONIC’s 100% Real Ice Cream, all topped with a drizzle of even more peanut butter, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Mini Reese’s Pieces candy.

Check out our delicious Sticky Chocolate Peanut Pie recipe:

“The Reese’s Overload Blast features Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Mini Reese’s Pieces candy blended with creamy peanut butter and SONIC’s 100% Real Ice Cream, and finishes with more Reese’s Peanut Butter cups and Mini Reese’s Pieces on top.”

Clearly, Sonic hasn’t pulled any peanut punches. As Scott Uehlein, vice president of product innovation and development for the brand, explained in a statement:

“The ultimate combination of our 100% Real Ice Cream and three delectable forms of chocolate and peanut butter – Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Mini Reese’s Pieces candy and even more layers of peanut butter – gives fans even more of their favorite indulgent flavors.

“These fully loaded treats certainly live up to their Reese’s Overload name and prove you can never have too much of a good thing.”

Available now until the 3rd of May, the summer run-in looks set to be seriously delicious.
