Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

Sushi has grown exponentially in popularity in recent years. Almost every self-respecting mall has a sushi chain of some sort these days, but now a woman has revealed that we’ve been eating sushi wrong this entire time.

Taking to TikTok, she explained why the little fish-shaped soy sauce packets have an extended part.

In the clip, the woman who appears to be Australian from her accent and username, says: “Do you want to know why soy sauce has the extended part?” while holding one of the soy sauce packets and a sushi roll.

Shazza then takes the soy sauce packet, sticks it into the side of her sushi roll, and squeezes it.

“It’s so that you can put it in and squeeze it into the sushi,” she explains.

The video was captioned “you learn a new thing every day”, and it has received a colossal response from users on the popular social networking website.

“I’m 37 and have poured it from the top this whole goddamn time. Not anymore,” one person wrote.

Another person said: “How am I just learning about this now.”

A third added: “I’ve been using the soy sauce wrong most my life. Thank you.”

Others were left in a state of shock after watching the hack and replied with brief responses including “holy heck”, “mind blown” and “makes perfect sense”.

There were even TikTok users who declared that “whole life had been a lie”, with some remarking that the handy tip will stop them from “spilling sauce everywhere” in the future.

However, this man came up with a slightly different use for the extended part:

However, not everyone who saw the video agreed that this was a hack worth knowing.

“No no no, that’s not how you eat sushi,” one viewer wrote.

Another added: “I dunno if that’s the real reason.”

One TikTok user said that the nozzle simply existed so that the lid could be screwed on the soy sauce, writing: “Not true, those packets were around before sushi was a thing.”

Shazza then told her critics to “do a little googling” to prove that she had shown the correct use for the fish soy sauce.
