Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

Although it isn’t always advisable, you can actually make alcohol from almost anything. As long as you have sugar, time and an open mind, there are very few limits to what can be turned into sinister moonshine. Apparently, this principle also applies to doughnuts.

Following in the footsteps of innumerable dodgy craft beer collaborations, American doughnut specialist Dunkin’ has announced plans for a radical new range of pastry inspired booze. Together with Harpoon brewery, the brand has recently unveiled plans for a new range of beer made with actual doughnuts. As Homer Simpson once noted, doughnuts – is there anything they can’t do?

The new collection will feature four separate flavours – two of which incorporate actual bits of Dunkin’ doughnuts into the mix. Alongside the brand’s now-established coffee porter, customers will now be able to enjoy Harpoon Dunkin’ Pumpkin, Harpoon Dunkin’ Boston Kreme, and Harpoon Dunkin’ Jelly Donut.

According to the descriptions, the Dunkin’ Pumpkin will be a “Spiced Latte Ale” offering “light…color and easy-drinking” and “a perfect blend of all the autumn flavors we love, with just a touch of espresso-like roast.”

Watch the latest episode of “Food Palace”, featuring Pina Colada Doughnuts:

The Boston Kreme, meanwhile, has been “brewed with real Dunkin’ donuts and cacao nibs, which add extra dough-like and chocolatey notes to an easy-drinking, creamy Dry Irish Stout,” while the jelly doughnut design delivers a “slightly hazy IPA” made “with real Dunkin’ donuts and raspberry purée.” However you look at it, it’s an unorthodox approach to brewing.

In a statement provided to Food & Wine, CEO and co-founder of Harpoon Dan Kenary declared:

“After more than two years and three seasons of collaborating with the Dunkin’ team, our fans have come to expect a delicious fall beer from us, but we wanted to give them something extra special this year.

“Our brewers have always been master innovators, but brewing beer made with real donuts was a first even for them. It’s hard to pick a favorite of the four recipes—just like it’s hard to pick a favorite donut from Dunkin’—but we hope both our and Dunkin’s fans have a blast trying.”

Say what you like, but the new range certainly makes the onset of autumn more appealing.
