Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

Once upon a time, filling a doughnut with anything other than jam was basically baking blasphemy. Despite the endless possibilities for stuffing, doughnut traditionalists would rather have died than see their beloved jelly fall out of favour. How far we’ve come.

Today’s doughnut industry is about as interested in jam as a diabetic hipster wasp. Mad doughnut scientists are now coming up with ever more elaborate ways to top and fill their tasty treats, and no one does it better than Krispy Kreme.

The famous pastry giant might be best known for its signature iced rings, but that doesn’t mean that they’re afraid to think outside the doughnut box. Already this year, Krispy Kreme has announced a massive collaboration with time-bending sci-fi franchise Rick and Morty and pushed the boat out with “Nutty Chocolate Hearts” for Valentine’s Day. Now, they’re pressing all the right buttons once again with a new set of Butterfinger candy-inspired sweets. Set your faces to yum.

Check out our recipe for Caramel Chocolate Stuffed Doughnuts:

The new combination, described as “Krispy Kreme’s first-ever partnership with Butterfinger” on the Krispy Kreme website, comes in two separate but equally awesome-sounding designs.

The Butterfinger original filled doughnut features a glazed ring “filled with Peanut Butter Chocolate Kreme, dipped in Butterfinger icing and topped with Butterfinger pieces and a chocolate drizzle.”

The Butterfinger Fudge Cake doughnut, on the other hand, includes “a rich chocolate cake doughnut dipped in chocolate icing, topped with a Peanut Butter Chocolate Kreme and Butterfinger pieces.”

Both designs, which will be available until the 3rd of March, deliver “all the krispety, crunchety, glazey, goodness” you could want, if the website is to be believed.

Purists might argue that messing around with something that’s already as perfect as a classic doughnut is a recipe for disaster. Clearly, these people need to get out more. If there’s one thing better than an ordinary pastry, of any kind, it’s one filled to bursting with peanut butter. We defy you to find a tastier sounding snack. We’ll wait.
