Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

In ordinary circumstances, ice cream and pigs might not sound like the tastiest combo. These, however, are far from ordinary circumstances. Given that we’re all trapped indoors, desperate for even the slightest tickle of excitement, now seems like the ideal time to introduce the world to a dessert inspired by something porcine.

With everyone working in isolation, high-end supermarket chain M&S has taken the chance to try and put a smile on everyone’s face, introducing an ice cream flavour that flies in the face of anyone who assumed pigs were only good for bacon. Based on one of Britain’s most beloved sweeties, all-new Percy Pig pints promise a nostalgic sugar hit, once you can get past the piggy connotations.

The exciting new ice cream was first promoted by Marks and Spencer’s PR Instagram account, with a sunny back yard photo, accompanied by the caption:

“Whether it’s movie night or time for a sunny picnic in the garden, NEW Percy Pig ice-cream is sure to bring a smile. Available from today – £3 per tub”

The ice cream itself, according to the description on the packaging, features a “ripple of fruity sauce” and is studded with “strawberry marshmallows”, promising to deliver the description-defying flavour of the original gummies

In a statement, April Preston, Director of Product Development said:

“Customers have been asking us for a Percy Pig ice-cream for a long time now, so we’re very pleased to be able introduce one at a time when we could all use a little pick me up.

“Percy Pig is loved by so many, so when we develop a new Percy product, we have to ensure every element of the flavour and texture is synonymous with what our loyal fans expect.

“This velvety smooth ice-cream gives that famous Percy Pig flavour, combined with the soft chewy texture of marshmallow. I love two scoops with an extra sprinkling of mini marshmallows on top and a good rom-com.”

As the weather starts to hot up in earnest, it looks like we can all look forward to at least one awesome ice cream to keep our spirits up.
