Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

The last 12 months have been devastating for the hospitality and restaurant industry.

Due to the ongoing impact of the coronavirus pandemic, many businesses have closed their doors. Some, sadly, have shut up shop for good.

As things gradually begin to get back to normal, the immense talent at the heart of British food needs all the help it can get.

This doesn’t just mean ordering more food or going out to dinner, but really understanding and celebrating the incredible people behind the cooking we all cherish.

Cheque It Out – telling the human stories behind restaurant closures

We are launching a new campaign to help get the industry back on its feet.

Featuring cooks from across the country, Cheque It Out is focused on the people behind the food we love. We want to shed light on those whose lives and livelihoods have been impacted by COVID-19 and showcase their incredible food to the world.

Over the course of the campaign, cooks from some of the UK’s leading independent restaurants will be sharing their cooking with the Twisted audience.

With over 30 million fans around the world, we want to use our platform to shine a light on great British cooking. The campaign will include Instagram takeovers, featured videos and much, much more.

If you’re as excited as we are to see things reopen and once again enjoy great food, Cheque it Out is the movement for you.

What is Cheque It Out?

Throughout this new initiative, Twisted will be teaming up with cooks from all over the UK. Already, restaurants such as Bubala, Kricket and Fuku have agreed to share their incredible cooking with our audience.

With your help, we can really spread the word about all the exciting things at the heart of British food.

Speaking ahead of the campaign launch, restaurateur Anna Sung, founder and head chef at Fuku, tells us:
“After so much time off, it’s such a great experience to be able to showcase my family salt and pepper chicken wings with Twisted.

“I’m excited to reopen on the 12th April and get the adrenaline going again. I can’t wait to feed people and see everyone feeling relaxed and smiling.”

A raft of brilliant British chefs will be participating in the project, preparing signature dishes and taking part in incredible cooking challenges. At all times, our priority will be placing the people behind the food front and centre. As Twisted co-head Tom Jackson explains:

“Not everyone has been granted the exposure…that they need or deserve, nor has enough been done to bridge the gap between publishers and those that inspire them; The cooks and teams behind the meals we long to eat out with our friends and family this Summer.

“It’s really important now that we keep the conversation going – the next few months will be crucial and we want to do all we can to ensure the reopening is as successful as possible.”

There’s no doubt that tough times are still ahead for the industry. However, we hope that by pulling together, we can help some of our most incredible cooks get the recognition they deserve.

We hope everyone wants to see them succeed as much as we do. Watch this space to discover the amazing things that British food has to offer.
