Wendy’s Spicy Chicken Nuggets are back in restaurants

Not for nothing did Posh, Scary, Sporty, Ginger and Baby bang on about how important it is to spice up your life. As anyone who likes walking on the wild side knows all too well, things are just that much more interesting when you’re playing with fire, and nowhere is this more true than with food. 

Ever since we began, thousands of years ago, to chow down on chilli peppers, chefs have known that extra heat is an absolute winner. This is just as true in a Michelin-starred, celebrity-stacked kitchen as it is at some of the world’s most successful and least glamorous fast food franchises. Small wonder, then, that as soon as an eatery announces that a staple menu item is getting some extra firepower, everyone loses their minds. 

As of tomorrow, legendary restaurant chain Wendy’s are re-introducing their much loved and seriously moreish spicy chicken nuggets to menus across America. The move comes as a shock, since the fan favourites weren’t expected to make their return until the following week, but clearly the powers that be felt that it was only fair to give their ravenous supporters an early taste.

Despite offering the unbeatable combination of chilli heat and chicken nuggets, the return of Wendy’s legendary dish wasn’t always on the cards. Having been removed from menus back in 2017, the chain were finally persuaded to put it to the fans, stating that if a tentative tweet about the food’s possible return received more than “2 million likes” they would bring back the nuggets.

Less than two days later, amid support from celebrities such as hip hop superstar Chance the Rapper, the infamous tweet had generated more than 2.1 million likes, prompting Wendy’s to declare that, “THIS IS NOT A DRILL! Spicy Chicken Nuggets are coming back! Y’all are crazy! That took like a day and a half! WHAT?! We don’t know when yet, gotta figure it out, but soon, and ok, LOSING IT RIGHT NOW THIS IS AMAZING!!” Now that the day is almost here, it looks like they’ve been as good as their word.
