You can now buy a Halloween pizza that’s 200 times hotter than a jalapeño

Whether you get your kicks from wearing inappropriate clothing to social events, or by refusing to give irritating children free sweets, Halloween is a holiday that really offers something for everyone. Fortunately for the hungry party animal, this means plenty of opportunity for indulging in delicious food. Seasonal staples like pumpkin spiced lattes and gore covered cakes mean it’s perfectly ok to be super excited by what’s on the menu around October 31st. Now, however, one supermarket is taking things to the next level.

As the night’s draw in and the air gets a little colder, fiery food starts to look seriously tempting. As anyone who likes their creature comforts will tell you, curling up on the sofa with a bowl of something hot and spicy is the only proper way to spend a chilly autumn evening. This is even more true on the scariest night of the year.

Taking advantage of our fondness for heat, British supermarket chain Morrisons have decided that it’s high time Halloween shoppers were given the chance to turn their favourite junk food into fiery hellspawn. Now, customers can get their hands on a limited edition “RIP-izza” – a pie that measures around 200 times hotter for the jalapeno. This is not a meal for the faint hearted.

There are a few key ingredients that allow the pizza to reach such astronomical temperatures. For starters, the sauce is infused with ghost chilli pepper extract and seeds – measuring a whopping one million units on the Scoville Heat Index. For context, that’s approximately 200 times hotter than Tabasco.

To make matters worse, Morrisons have topped the pizza with a mixture of spicy beef and fresh jalapenos, as well as a blend of “reaper chilli cheddar” – cheese that features one of the spiciest peppers on earth: the infamous Carolina reaper. Though it’s tempered somewhat by being blended with cheese, reaper chillis can measure more than 300 times hotter than jalapenos. That’s a whole lot of heat to handle.

Despite the ferocious ingredients on offer, there’s more to the new pizza than extreme temperatures. As part of the Halloween theme, the base has been made with a mixture of green algae, apparently designed to make it “look more like a tombstone”.

According to Simon Metcalfe, pizza buyer at Morrisons, the pizza is “‘This pizza is one of the hottest and spookiest we’ve ever made. It is definitely a combination of trick and treat with the delicious tombstone-green base, and the burn from the reaper cheddar or ghost chilli sauce.” For anyone who fancies something a little different from their traditional Halloween finger food, this spicy snack definitely ticks all the boxes.

According to The Metro, “The 10” pizza is £2.50 and available from Morrisons pizza counters across the country.” Though it’s unclear whether or not the pie will become a permanent fixture, it’s certainly got food fans a little hot under the collar.
