Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

Cornettos have had an iconic place in pop culture ever since Ed told his mate what he wanted from the shop at the start of 2004’s rom-zom-com “Shaun of the Dead”. After two follow-ups and the conclusion of the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, everyone’s heard of the iconic creamy frozen cones, even if they’ve never actually eaten one. But, if immortalising it in film was an odd way to treat a classic ice cream, the brand’s latest launch is downright bizarre.

In a move that’s going to shock Cornetto purists and thrill Instagrammers in equal measure, the ice cream makers have decided to capitalise on the world’s inexplicable obsession with magical horses and release a unicorn-themed cone. Naturally, the ice cream has been christened the “UniCornetto”. Good work, everyone.

The dessert, which has been created by Cornetto’s Australian distributors Streets, is arguably the brand’s most eye catching ice cream to date. Featuring a bright pink cone, blue and purple cotton candy-flavoured ice cream and a mixture of marshmallow rosettes and strawberry sauce, the UniCornetto sounds seriously sweet as well as slightly sickening.

Discussing the new creation with news.co.au, Streets brand manager, Samantha Jarmul said, “We’re thrilled to be giving our customers a taste of magic with this exciting new member of the Cornetto family. The UniCornetto was created to bring a unique dessert experience to teens and families alike and is too majestic not to be shared with friends.”

Unfortunately for international Cornetto fans, it looks like the new ice cream will only be available in Australia. Retailing for around $4, anyone on social media shouldn’t be shocked if southern hemisphere-based Instagram feeds suddenly start looking a lot more lurid. The rest of us will just have to wait our turn.
