Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

Cadbury Creme Eggs are the most divisive thing to happen to Easter since the Disciples received the bill for the Last Supper. While there are plenty of people who wouldn’t eat the gelatinous mass at the heart of the eggs if you paid them, you can’t deny that the weird snacks have a seriously dedicated fanbase. Come Pancake Day, they are everywhere.

In fact, the sickly sweet treats are so popular that their influence can be felt all across the dessert aisle. Every year, dozens of brands jump on the eggy bandwagon, producing a wealth of questionable and alarming puddings. 2020 is no exception. Cadbury haters would do well to look away now – Creme Egg cheesecakes have arrived.

Although it’s not an official collaboration with Cadbury, there’s no doubting where the new dessert gets its inspiration. Available in British supermarket Iceland, the “Luxury Belgian Chocolate Easter Egg Cheesecake” is topped with an unmistakable white and yellow yolk decoration that looks like someone has tried to crack open and fry the milk chocolate original.

Retailing for just £3, the Creme Egg-esque cheesecake also features a buttery biscuit crumb, chocolate shavings and a vanilla creme cheese body.

Described as “Heavenly” by one five-star review on the Iceland website, shoppers should “Remove from all packaging and place on a serving plate”, “Defrost at room temperature for 1 hour 40 minutes”, and “Once defrosted keep refrigerated and consume within 24 hours” in order to best enjoy the dessert.

Of course, this isn’t the first time that Creme Eggs have inspired other Easter treats. In 2018, Cadbury launched the “Layers of Joy” Easter trifle, which was described as “A layered sharing dessert with Cadbury milk chocolate dessert, chocolate mousse, chocolate chip cookie and fondant dessert with a creamy topping.” It might not be for everyone, but there’s no escaping the Creme Egg’s sticky influence at this time of year.
