You can now get a new pineapple-flavoured Mountain Dew

When you sell a product that looks like radioactive urine, it pays to be a little OTT. Say what you like about Mountain Dew, no one could ever accuse the brand of being shy and retiring. This year, they have proven once again that, when it comes to grabbing the headlines with a whacky new flavour, few do it better than Mountain Dew. 

New for 2019, the brand has unleashed an exciting “Maui Burst” iteration onto the market – a drink that combines “Dew with a blast of pineapple flavour”, according to the description on the can. Currently available exclusively at Dollar General, it is unclear whether there will be a wider rollout, but that hasn’t stopped eager Dew fans from sampling the goods.

According to Instagrammer @dadbodsnacks, the drink delivers “a mellow pineapple/citrus flavor that still holds true to the classic Dew flavor.” In an extensive review on the photo-sharing platform, @dadbodsnacks elaborated:

“It’s got a classic neon yellow look but I feel it’s a tiny bit cloudier. The smell and taste though are obviously different. But different from the regular. This actually reminded me of LiveWire a lot. The “natural flavors” I pick do have pineapple but I also get citrus too. Like more than I would have thought. Not that it’s a bad thing though.”

“Honestly, I like this better than LiveWire. It’s not 100% in-your-face sweet like LiveWire. It’s a mellow pineapple/citrus flavor that still holds true to the classic Dew flavor. I could see myself crushing a couple of these if it came out back in my soda years (yea, I had soda years, don’t judge me). Great Dew flavor and the pineapple/citrus complements it very well. I hope this hits other stores soon…DG isn’t that close to me. Haha. Overall: 8/10”

This positivity was echoed by another Dewthusiast, @hodgekaze, who added:

“The pineapple is obvious but shares the stage well with the signature Mtn Dew kick and the “other natural flavors”. I give it a 7.5/10. I didn’t like it quite as much as I thought but this is no doubt a good flavor.” 

It might look a little ostentatious, but it’s clear that Maui Burst has got the seal of approval from fans.
