Chocolate and orange is one of those combinations that sounds like it shouldn’t work. Any relatively healthy vitamin-heavy fruit should be anathema to a sugary lump of brown diabetes fuel. And yet, the two are a match made in heaven. It’s therefore hardly surprising that whenever one of the world’s iconic chocolate bars gets an orange inflection, the internet goes into meltdown.
The latest source of online chocolate orange excitement comes courtesy of global confectionery giant Cadbury. According to a report in The Sun, the sweet distributor has finally been forced to admit to its plans for fruity domination in the form of a chocolate orange Twirl bar after evidence was allegedly leaked on social media. The news has got everyone old enough to access a computer giddy with expectation.
In a statement provided to the paper, a Cadbury spokesperson revealed:
"We knew it would be difficult to keep the news of the limited edition Cadbury Twirl Orange under wraps as people would be as excited about the product as we are.
"We can’t share much more at the moment, but watch this space for more information as we get closer to the launch."
To ratchet up the excitement even further, Cadbury have been using their own social media channels to tease the public. Last week, the CadburyUK Instagram account posted a photo of a Twirl bar above the caption, “What makes it so twirly?” to which a fan responded, “Is the orange twirl a hoax or coming soon?”
While details about the release are relatively scarce, committed Cadbury fans can try an orange Twirl for themselves already, provided they are prepared to make a trip to Australia. Though a version of the bar has been available there for some time, it is not yet known whether the British variety will use the same recipe. Whatever the outcome, we certainly can’t wait to try it.
