Krispy Kreme is handing out 1 million free doughnuts this week – here’s how to get yours

In an exciting new giveaway, Krispy Kreme is pledging to hand out 1 million free doughnuts this week.

Up until Sunday, May 16, British customers can get their hands on a free original glazed doughnut.

There aren’t many things that make the working week go faster than the prospect of free food. Fortunately for hungry pastry fans, this should make the next few days among the speediest in history.

The free doughnut promotion, available at Krispy Kreme stores across the UK, is the latest in a series of campaigns focused on the coronavirus pandemic.

After providing free doughnuts to NHS staff, the US-based brand is now using its produce as a way to celebrate the end of lockdown restrictions. This new offer celebrates the reunion of friends, family and loved-ones post-pandemic

Claiming your doughnut really couldn’t be more simple. In order to take part, all you have to do is head into a store and show staff how you have connected with someone during the pandemic.

Evidence could include a photo, a text or even a written message, so long as it includes the hashtag #smileiscurrency. After sharing your story, staff will give you your doughnut – it’s that simple.

Discussing the heartwarming new promotion, Nadine Singler, Krispy Kreme’s head of marketing said: “We want to celebrate all of those little things that make you smile by giving away up to 1million doughnuts in a week to those that connect and smile from cheek to cheek! Come on Britain get connecting.”

As an incentive to take part, it’s tough to beat free doughnuts.

The offer of free doughnuts for a week is certainly exciting for British Krispy Kreme customers. However, it’s hardly the first time that the brand has indulged in a bit of bribery to get people in store.

In fact, throughout the pandemic, Krispy Kreme has consistently done its best to ensure everyone has easy access to doughnuts.

Emergency service members and care personnel, for instance, are eligible for 25% off all doughnuts at Krispy Kreme stores, for instance.

In addition, the brand has taken part in other free giveaways throughout the year. Given their penchant for pastry generosity, it seems unlikely that this will be the last time free doughnuts are on the menu.

Still, you should never turn down something so delicious if it can be avoided.
