Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

A double gin and tonic in London is NOT the most expensive drink in the world.

While the bill is scary, it’s actually a bargain compared to the drinks we’ve listed below.

Turns out, there’s a lot more to pricey booze than location.

If you really want to break the bank, you’ll have to do more than go on a geographically convenient spending spree.

From age to origin, there are all sorts of things that go into making the most expensive drinks in the world.

Even though the numbers involved are terrifying, it’s worth knowing what’s out there – if only so you feel less guilty when you spend £12 on an overpriced Gordon’s.

Fancy wine is one of the hallmarks of any upmarket restaurant. But, even though buying something hugely expensive from an incomprehensible menu is a rite of passage, there are limits.

5. Armand de Brignac Midas

As important as history is, sometimes people just love to be tacky. Armand de Brignac’s $215,000 price tag comes not from a top-secret manufacturing process, but mostly from the fact that it is presented in an enormous gold bottle.

Scottish whisky has a mystique like little else, and Dalmore 62 is no exception.

Triple distilled through three layers of precious gemstones, the bottle comes with an artery of coloured diamonds running through the centre. Small wonder it costs $1,000,000.

2. Henri IV Dudognon Heritage Cognac

The epitome of excess, Henri IV Dudognon Heritage Cognac looks like it’s been lifted straight from a medieval king’s court.

Dudognon Heritage’s real selling point is its bottle. The glass is embossed with enough gold and diamonds to make Floyd Mayweather blush. Coupled with a 100-year ageing process, the total price comes in at $2,000,000. Ouch.

1. Tequila Ley .925

Given how many of us spend Saturday nights gulping down tequila shots by the gallon, to find out that this spirit is the most expensive drink on earth might come as something of a shock.

Carefully crafted and presented in a bottle encrusted with over 6,000 individual diamonds, no one has actually bought a $3,500,000 bottle of Tequila Ley .925. Whoever finally takes the plunge is going to have some serious explaining to do to their other half.

Treating yourself to a sip of something pricey can sometimes feel like an indulgence too far. If you ever feel guilty about going all-in on a bottle of wine, or ordering a second pre-dinner cocktail, just remember what you could theoretically be spending to wet your whistle.

It could always be much, much worse.
