Are you feeling festive yet? It might only be September, but the Christmas food is already lining the shelves, and we can’t pretend it’s not getting us in the spirit.
We’ve already told you about the Häagen-Dazs wintry dessert-inspired ice cream collection that just launched, as well as Aldi’s new drink, which tastes exactly like the Quality Street’s Purple One.
But we had to give you some exciting savoury news, too. Introducing Bisto’s Pigs In Blanket flavoured gravy.
Yup, as if a platter of the piggy parcels weren’t enough, you can now buy gravy granules that taste like them.
It looks like this year’s Christmas dinner is getting an upgrade!
Available in Sainsbury’s stores up and down the country, the product is only £1.50, and promises all the delicious porky flavours you’d expect from pigs in blankets in rich, luscious gravy form.
The product was pointed out by food blog, New Foods UK, and it’s safe to say people are excited. Some had already tried the new gravy, and noted that it got their seal of approval.
“Just had this today and it really does taste of bacon. So so nice,” said one eager shopper online.
Meanwhile, others flocked to comment how keen they were to give it a try.
A fellow commenter gushed: “I’d drink this out of a mug!!,” as another suggested that it was “the perfect dipping sauce to beige food”.
“Defo getting this for Christmas,” wrote a fourth.
We all know how beloved the humble pig in blanket is over Christmas. In fact, it’s so popular today that people can buy pigs in blanket mayo, pigs in blanket crisps and even pigs in blanket dog treats in their local supermarket.
Quite literally pig tucked into a bed of pig, the slightly hedonistic little snack is a niche enough concept in itself, when you think about it.
However, they’re now so popular that there’s a dedicated Pigs In Blankets Day, and over 128 million of the festive staple are served on Christmas Day alone.
