We're not ashamed to admit that when we travel we have to pop our heads into a Maccies and see what they're selling.

Fascinatingly, McDonald's franchises around the world all sell different menu items, depending on the country's appetites and what they're craving.

And if you look into it, we promise you'll get food envy. The likes of McDonald's cheesy chips, veggie paneer burgers and even spaghetti have even graced menus before (more on that here).

But we might have just found the McDonald's foreign menu item we're most jealous of – chicken wings.

Yup, imagine the scenes!

Aptly named the McDonald's Spicy McWing, this product has sold in a lot of Asian markets, including India, China, Korea, Singapore and the Philippines, among others.

The wings are coated in a crispy batter, with succulent, tender meat inside.

The flavour of the McWing varies around the world. In India, they come in a spicy chilli lime spice mix, whilst Hong Kong has seen BBQ and Honey Mustard varieties.

There's also non spicy McWings in some countries, for those who can't take the heat.

There's a whole world of McDoanld's chicken wings out there just waiting to be discovered!

McDonald's chicken wings have also existed in the States before, believe it or not.

According to Chew Boom, Maccies wings first hit American branches in 1990s, although they didn't stick for long.

They then had a revival in 2013, under the name Mighty Wing, before hitting branches again in Atlanta, back in 2016.

Despite a few releases, Mighty Wings never took off Stateside, and the general consensus was that they were too spicy, and others deemed them too expensive, selling for $3.19 (£2.50) for a three pack, $4.99 (£3.92) for a five-pack and $8.99 (£7) for ten in the early Noughties.

As for the UK? When asked why they don't sell hot wings over here, back in 2018, a McDonald's rep replied: "Research has shown that our customers do not see McDonald's as a destination to buy chicken wings and as such, we have no plans to introduce them to our UK menu."

Here's hoping that as our appetites for spice and world flavours grows, Maccies bosses might have second thoughts and bring the McWing our way.
