Butter boards are the new TikTok trend – so we tried it ourselves

Let’s face it, everyone loves to graze on food, don’t they? A table of picky bits is indisputably one of the best things ever.

You might be partial to a charcuterie spread, a cheese platter or even a hotdog board, but now TikTok has come up with a brand new offering, and it might be our favourite yet.

Move over cured meats and Camembert, this latest trend is all about butter.

Yup, over on TikTok, people are making their own butter boards, and not only do they look an absolute spectacle but they’re a taste sensation, too.

The idea is you fill a board with lashings of really good quality, slightly cooled butter and spread it out using a palate knife.

Then, you can add whatever toppings you want to it. We’re talking chunky sea salt, fresh herbs, chillies, lemon zest or even edible flowers.

All that’s left to do (after snapping it for the ‘gram, of course) is to grab a really good chunk of bread and get dipping.

Bread and butter will never have tasted so good.

On TikTok, the hashtag #ButterBoard currently has 31.3million views and counting, and it’s showing no sign of dying down.

This TikToker mixed things up, creating a Desi butter board using mango chutney, sea salt, crispy garlic, coriander and Indian spices, and served it with a naan bread. A true celebration of south Asian flavours.

There are, of course, loads more takes on butter boards floating around, including dessert versions, with chocolate and fruit on top.

In fact, Twisted chef Spencer even jumped on the trend herself after spotting it online, and we might be bias but we think her take is the best so far.

She made hers with brown butter, candied walnuts, hot honey and dried rosemary, and the end result was pretty spectacular.

The trend is first said to have been conceived by America-based recipe developer Justine Doiron (who runs account @justine_snacks), after she shared a video earlier this month, telling her followers she was “in a silly goofy butter mood”.

She used salt, herbs and edible flowers on her creation, and it looked an absolute picture (her video is above if you wanna check it out!).

We don’t know about you, but we’re going to be all over this. Finally, a trend which validates our need to smear huge knobs of butter onto our bread without any shame.
