Ex McDonald's chef reveals menu item he thinks you should never order

A former McDonald's chef has revealed the one menu item he would never advise ordering.

Yup, not everything on the McDonald's menu is made equal, and that's coming from Mike Haracz, the Manager of Culinary Innovation over in the States.

But what would he skip out on?

Well, he told TikTok viewers the bagel breakfast sandwich wouldn't be for him, unless a nifty hack was applied.

"The problem with the bagel sandwich is this right here," he said, pointing to the folded egg.

"This egg is hot garbage, okay? This is their pre-frozen folded egg. All they do is either microwave it or put it on the grill.

"It is the worst egg that McDonald's has in the restaurant, of all the egg options you can have."

So, there you have it...if you're living in the US, don't order the breakfast bagel as is.

Mike does have a solution, though.

He said instead to ask, 'hey, I would like the breakfast bagel sandwich, but instead of the hot garbage deck of playing cards folded egg, can you add the scrambled eggs from the big breakfast pictured here?"

He explained that they cook these in the restaurant, which means you're getting a fresher product. Result.

Of course, this preference is completely subjective, but if anyone knows the Maccies menu like the back of his hand it's this guy.

When he worked at McDonald's, Mike's day to day would involve quality testing and innovating the products to ensure they were up to scratch. Not a bad gig!

Mike has built quite a name for himself on TikTok, lifting the lid on menu hacks we should all be trying.

He also previously revealed that the classic McDonald's Filet -O-Fish ends up a lot like a British fish finger sarnie if you make a few small changes.

The McDonald's Filet-O-Fish A Filet-O-Fish is made from white Hoki or Pollock fish, which is fried in crispy breadcrumbs, slathered with tartare sauce and topped with some trusty American cheese.

But Mike says that if you ask for an English muffin and substitute the tartar sauce for Big Mac sauce when ordering this, it ends up tasting pretty similar to a fish finger sarnie.

Good to know, eh?

"This is a pretty tasty kind of English pub-style fish sandwich thing," he explains in another video.

If you wanna get the secret menu item for yourself, the catch is that you've gotta get your timing just right.

This is because you can only get muffins when breakfast is served, so to be in with a chance of bagging yours, you're gonna have to order at that sweet spot when breakfast is ending and lunch is starting.
