Gordon Ramsay has revealed one part of the menu you should probably avoid when eating out...

Going out to eat is always a joy, and a lot of us will spend the day perusing the menu online to really be sure of our order when we get there.

If you have ever had trouble deciding what to chow down on because the menu is overflowing with options, then Hell's Kitchen star Gordon Ramsay might have the answers for you.

When it comes to finding good food options, there are not many people who can live up to Ramsay's expertise.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the Kitchen Nightmares frontman, who has earned 17 Michelin stars over his illustrious career and currently holds eight, shared invaluable advice for diners looking to enhance their restaurant experience.

Gordon's first tip is to be wary of eateries making "suspicious boasts" about their food quality. We've all seen restaurants claiming to have "famous burgers" or "the best fry-ups in the country" without any substantial proof.

He questioned such claims, saying: "Who said that? Who named that?"

For wine enthusiasts, Gordon offered a clever trick to score excellent wine at a bargain price. He suggested asking for the "bin end list", which includes bottles with scratched labels or vintages that haven't sold well.

This strategy can help diners find quality wine for little more than £20.

His final piece of advice pertains to the specials board, a staple in many restaurants. Ramsay warned that an extensive list of specials is a red flag.

"Specials are there to disappear throughout the evening. When they list 10 specials, that's not special," he said.

While a seasonal special can be a delightful choice, Ramsay advises sticking to a less crowded specials board to ensure a truly special dish.

In other news relating to Ramsay and menus, one man was left with an eye-watering bill at one of the star chef's restaurants.

Taking to Reddit, the customer explained: “Well, they had real deal Japanese A5 Kobe on the menu - and it was cheaper than American Wagyu! The Kobe was only $35 (£28) for 4 oz instead of $80 (£64) for 8 oz of Wagyu. So I’m a big guy, I’m hungry, so I order 12 oz of Kobe.”

Describing the meal as "amazing," he was initially pleased with his decision. His girlfriend ordered Ramsay’s famous Beef Wellington, and they added sides and appetisers to complete their meal.

“All in all an amazing meal and we were glad we could support the restaurant and its staff during these challenging times. And I still couldn’t believe Kobe was cheaper than Wagyu!” he recounted.

However, the satisfaction was short-lived.

When the bill arrived, the customer had to reread the menu, realising he had made a costly mistake. The Kobe beef was not $35 per four ounces, but $35 per ounce.

This meant he had ordered $420 (£336) worth of steak. The total bill for two people came to over $600 (£480).

Yikes!
