London restaurant is offering takeaway roast dinners

A proper Sunday roast makes everything better. In these troubled times, tucking into a beef rib, meaty gravy and crunchy potatoes is as good a way as any to escape the doom and gloom of the news. Obviously, heading to your favourite restaurant is out of the equation. Fortunately, other options are on the table.

In a bid to keep the city’s spirits up and tummies full, one London restaurant has decided to venture into the world of remote roasting. Based in Peckham, self-described “refined yet relaxed bar, restaurant & cafe” Coal Rooms has decided to drastically change its usual Sunday lunch offering, packaging up its usual roast dinner and delivering it for locals to enjoy in the comfort of their own home. 

According to a post shared on the restaurant’s Twitter feed, “From this Sunday, (they) will be offering Sunday Roasts for delivery (within 3 miles of Coal Rooms) or to pick up. It’s (their) usual Sunday Roast menu, but packaged up so you can enjoy at home.”

The dishes on offer include Welsh lamb saddle (£22), Hereford beef rump (£20), Roasted celeriac and mushroom gravy (£14), and a Half Cotswold chicken (£19). It might be pricey, but it’s definitely delicious.

Also available is a selection of “Roasts to Share”, which includes Welsh lamb saddle (£39), Whole Cotswold chicken (£35) and 40-day aged Belted Galloway Rumps (£44). Everything on the menu comes with “beef dripping potatoes, carrots, January King cabbage, leeks and Yorkshire pudding” and can be supplemented with sides such as Nocellara olives and bread from the St John bakery. 

Maybe now more than ever, Sunday roasts are a vital weekly ritual. In a climate where restaurants around the world are feeling the heat, showing them some love is more important than ever. This weekend, why not kill two birds with one stone and support the industry while enjoying something delicious?
