Artemis II astronauts reveal what they actually eat in space

We've all seen Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansenare aboard the Artemis II, in what's undoubtedly a monumental move for space travel.

But what do they eat in space?!

No, they're not smashing burgers in zero gravity or sipping soup out of a floating bowl like it’s a sci-fi dinner party.

Turns out, the crew on NASA’s Artemis II mission are basically living off what can only be described as the world’s most high-tech meal prep.

They've got nearly 200 different food and drink options, but before you get jealous, there’s a catch – everything has to survive space. No fridge, no Deliveroo, no cheeky midnight snack runs.

Instead, it’s all shelf-stable, pre-packed, and designed so it won’t explode into crumbs and chaos the second gravity disappears.

And honestly? The menu is weirdly elite.

Breakfast might be granola with blueberries or a full-on veggie quiche. Lunch and dinner? Think mac and cheese, beef brisket, couscous, even mango salad. Not exactly Michelin-starred, but also… not bad for being 250,000 miles from Earth.

Oh, and bread is basically banned.

Because crumbs floating around a spacecraft is apparently a nightmare, they swap it out for tortillas. Yes, astronauts are out here living on wraps like it’s a student kitchen.

Drinks are just as chaotic.

There’s coffee (a lot of it — like 40+ servings), smoothies, green tea, even lemonade. But you don’t exactly pour it into a glass. Everything comes in special pouches, and you sip it through a straw like a space Capri Sun.

And because space apparently ruins your sense of taste, they’ve gone all-in on flavour.

We’re talking multiple types of hot sauce onboard, because when your taste buds are dulled, spice is basically the only thing that still slaps.

Desserts are doing the heavy lifting too.

Cookies, chocolate, cake, pudding... it’s giving “packed lunch but make it NASA”.

Sure, it's not the most glamorous, but when your kitchen is a spacecraft and your nearest takeaway is Earth, a reheated pouch of mac and cheese probably hits different.
