A woman on TikTok has sparked a lively conversation after sharing how she felt shamed by a waitress for ordering two menu items for herself.

The user, who goes by @ashleymkenney on the video sharing app, said that she had been left embarrassed after a waitress acted surprised at the amount of food she had chosen.

It was made worse by the fact she'd only ordered a soup and a salad, and tucked into some complimentary bread.

“Imagine you get a soup and salad and the food runner says, ‘these are both for you? You’re going to finish them both?’” she wrote over the video. “What do I say when she brings me out my 16oz steak…”

The TikToker went on to clarify that the waitress was "very sweet" but clearly hadn't realised how her comments had come across.

"I don’t think she meant anything bad by it, but it did not translate well lol,” she said.

“And I didn’t even order the bread, they just bring it over!”

Reacting to the video, lots of people empathised with the TikToker.

"I rlly feel like it should be an unspoken rule in any sort of restaurant to not comment on how much someone is eating it’s so strange! (sic)," said one.

Whilst another concurred: "Oof. I’m a server & I specifically don’t make any comments on people choices or sizes or anything. Not nice".

"I would’ve ordered dessert right there and left no tip," commented a third.

"Man sometimes I finish my meal fully and then order a whole other one. If someone said anything like that I would as for them not to come back to my table. I’m here to enjoy myself," someone else chimed in.

We're sure the waitress meant nothing by it, but here's helpful a reminder not to comment on what anyone else is eating...

More power to all the double main-course gang out there!
