Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

If you’ve scrolled TikTok in the last year, you’ll almost certainly be familiar with the messy dinner trend.

For those who aren’t in the know, it’s where you tip your dinner straight onto the table rather than onto the plate, with a handy sheet of clingfilm to help avoid any mess.

Like all TikTok trends, it sounds a little bonkers – and frankly, that’s because it is.

Some claim it’s a method to avoid washing up, and others say it’s simply a fun activity for the kids. But in truth, most people do it because it provides some hilarious reactions.

Case in point? This video below:

Yup, in perhaps our favourite video so far, from TikTok account @grannysoffherrocker, a nan is the recipient of a messy dinner, and her face pretty much says it all.

“We’re just having pasta for dinner, I don’t wanna mess up the tablecloth,” says the woman’s daughter as she tries to explain the clingfilm covered table.

“Oh, okay,” says the grandmother with a confused look on her face.

But the confusion is only set to get worse as her daughter proceeds to dollop the spaghetti straight in front of her – sans plate and sans cutlery.

“What the fuck?,” questions the old lady as she looks at the table and then back at her daughter. “Don’t you believe in bowls?”

Before she knows it, spinach, sausage, sauce and cheese are tipped onto the pasta, to the dismay of little the old lady, who goes on to call her daughter a “real low life”.

“Where did you learn this from?,” she asks. “Not from me!”

The video was obviously a hit online, with people flocking to the comments to share their amusement.

“Her face,” said one alongside a string of laughing emojis.

Whilst another wrote: “The ‘don’t you believe in bowls’ got me”.

“Grandma confused but still tossed the pasta,” chimed in another viewer.

As a fourth wrote: “She was so stressed THE ENTIRE TIME”.

So, what have we learnt from this TikTok? It’s safe to say the messy dinner trend is still as divisive as ever, especially if you try it on your mum.

Still, we can’t pretend we’re not super tempted now. That reaction was priceless!
