Ingredients

    Red wine syrup
  • 250mlred wine
  • 200ggranulated sugar
  • 1orange, sliced
  • 2star anise
  • 4cloves
  • 1cinnamon stick
  • 1vanilla pod (optional)
  • Martini
  • 50mlgin
  • Splashvermouth
  • 25mlred wine syrup
  • Cranberries, for garnish

If you’re not a fan of dirty blue cheese martinis, then this one is for you. Gin, vermouth, and a fragrant, sweet red wine syrup made with cinnamon, cloves, star anise, and orange. You could make this with vodka if you like, but the aromatic flavours of gin works really well with the mulled wine spices!

Method

  • Start by toasting the spices - star anise, cloves, and cinnamon. Turn off the heat, then add sugar, red wine, orange, and vanilla.
  • Bring to a boil, then turn down the heat and simmer for 10 minutes until glossy and it coats the spoon. Allow to cool
  • For the martini, add ice to a large glass. Pour over the syrup, gin, and vermouth. Stir to mix.
  • Strain over a chilled glass, and serve with cranberries on a cocktail stick to garnish.
  • What do you think of the recipe?
