The UK woke up to some rather big news tonight... and no, we're not talking about the local elections.

Gavin & Stacey is returning for a grand finale on Christmas Day 2024, and it's safe to say that people are excited about it.

Yep, BBC announced the long anticipated comeback of the James Corden and Ruth Jones comedy sitcom on Friday morning in a way that just felt right.

They reeled off Smithy's mammoth takeaway order on Twitter.

Anyone remember it? Yep, that's right.

"A chicken bhuna, lamb bhuna, prawn bhuna, mushroom rice, bag of chips, keema naan, nine poppadoms."

What a moment.

Alongside all the (obvious) fanfare about the show's return, the takeaway throwback sparked conversations of its own, as people recalled the iconic scene.

Need a refresher? You can watch it below:

The scene sees Smithy barge into the Shipman household and reel off his curry order, to the bewilderment of everyone else.

The dramz comes when it's suggested he should share with everyone.

"Okay, what is it about a group of people ordering an Indian, or a Chinese or something, that's it's somehow unexpectable to eat your own food, that' you've ordered yourself.

"Like, why do we have to... why are we all just...[gestures to suggest sharing around the table]."

"Well, because it's nice," replies Pam.

"No it's not! Not for me," retorts Smithy. "Because I can guarantee someone, probably Stacey, will have ordered the korma... am I wrong? Mick, am I wrong?"

"No, she has actually," Mick replies.

"Exactly, and in my book, a korma is pointless," Smithy rages. "It's futile, I won't touch it.

"But I can guarantee that Pete's already eyeing up my bhunas. Am I wrong? Pete, have you thought about my bhunas?," he continues.

"Well, yes," Pete concedes.

"They're my bhunas! You want a bhuna, order a bhuna," he shouts. "That's why I've ordered two bhunas."

Iconic scenes from Smithy, telling it how it is.

James Cordon's character ends up demanding he order his own food and eat it in the car to avoid any sharing (quite an extreme measure, granted).

And perhaps the best moment? When he pops his head round the corner after storming out to add that he'd also like a sag aloo.

Quoting the timeless Gavin & Stacey moment, one Twitter user replied to the announcement writing: "I'd like a sag aloo as well please, Mick".

Elsewhere on YouTube, there's a lot more love for the takeaway scene, too.

"I have watched this a unhealthy amount of times...but I won't stop," said one person in the comments under the vid.

While another wrote: "This is one of the greatest scenes in the whole of television".

"I am SO with Smithy on this one. He is 100% right," another chimed in.

Here's. hoping for this level of food aggression from Smithy in the new episode, airing on BBC One on Christmas Day.

(Oh, and we'll find out of Nessa says yes to Smithy, too! What fun.)
