McDonald's might be known for its golden arches, but did you know there's one branch of the fast food chain where they're actually blue?

Yup, around 45,000 Maccies outlets boast the yellow M sign outside, but only one has opted for a teal sign instead.

The branch can be found in Sedona, Arizona, and there's a very particular reason for it.

Why is McDonald's sign in Sedona Arizona blue?

The story starts in 1998, where the owner of Sedona's McDonald's was told by the local authority that the yellow signs would be a distraction from the *aesthetic* of the area.

If you know anything about Sedona, it's best known for stunning stretches of desert and red, rocky canyons.

In order for the store to get approval to open, they had to agree to go for a teal coloured sign instead of the traditional yellow, matching the shopping centre next door.

Senior planner for the department, Cari Meyer, said to ABC 15: "Someone suggested it would be interesting if they did something else than golden arches to fit in with the identity that the city decided to establish."

That's not the only thing different about the sign, either.

The authorities also wanted the sign to be lower than the typical height, so it was less of a blemish on the area.

The irony of the whole thing is that the McDonald's is now actually a draw to the area, despite the town pushing for it to blend in.

Because it's so unique, people actually travel to it, and even take pictures in front of the sign.

Whilst this is the only McDonald's venue to have a blue arch, there are a couple of other locations with different colours to the usual yellow.

In Paris and Brussels there are white arches, too, whilst one California McDonald's has a red arch, and another has a black one.
