1. Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que

Barbecue is a big part of the Man v. Food canon. As one of the most iconic American eating experiences, smoked meat always features heavily on the menu.

One of the show’s most memorable moments took place at the legendary Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que. Back in season three, Adam Richman sampled the kitchen’s famous burnt ends with mouthwatering results.

It might not offer the massive challenges the show is most famous for, but Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que should be on everyone’s bucket list.

2. Voodoo Doughnut

In many ways, Man v. Food pre-empted the age of social media-centric food by visiting this now-viral doughnut store.  Today a nationwide chain, the original Portland Voodoo Doughnut location blew Richman’s mind when he visited back in season one.

Described by the ever-enthusiastic host as having some of the “most delicious and unique doughnuts in the world”, it’s no wonder that this legendary store has gone from strength to strength.

3. Acme Oyster House

The site of one of Richman’s most memorable challenges, the Acme Oyster House in New Orleans has been an institution since 1910.

At this historic restaurant, diners can dive headfirst into high-quality Creole and Cajun seafood cooking. The main event, however, is the indomitable 15 Dozen Oyster Challenge which involves, as the name suggests, eating 15 dozen oysters in a single sitting.

Even if eating a mountain of shellfish isn’t your style, there’s still plenty to get excited about.

4. Katz’s Deli

Featured on both big and small screens, Katz’s Delicatessen in New York is famous for more than its food. One look at the menu, however, and you’ll be wondering whether Meg Ryan really was exaggerating in that iconic “When Harry Met Sally” scene.

Everyone has overordered on pizza. If you’re hungry, it’s dangerously easy to justify stuffing any number of inches into your face. At Big Pie in the Sky, however, you’ll more than likely be biting off way more than you can chew.

This Georgia-based pizzeria has become legendary for its delicious pies and terrifying Carnivore Challenge. This task involves downing a 30-inch meat-heavy pie in one hour or less. Small wonder Richman fell at the final hurdle.

6. Humpy’s Great Alaskan Alehouse

It takes a lot to be named as Adam Richman’s all-time favourite eating challenge. Needless to say, to be worthy of such an accolade, Humpy’s Great Alaskan Alehouse offers something seriously special.

The bar itself specialises in top-quality beer, but it’s the famous Kodiak Arrest challenge that put it on the Man v. Food map. Featuring salmon cakes, crab legs, fried veggies and mashed potato, the seafood-heavy feast was definitely made easier by its deliciousness.

7. L&B Spumoni Gardens

New York City is full of incredible pizza spots. In order to win the affection of a stomach as well travelled as Adam Richman’s, you have to be doing something right.

L&B Spumoni Gardens breaks the traditional NYC pizza mould by serving fat square Sicilian-style slices. Described by Richman as “the holiest of holies”, this restaurant is a must-visit for all pie-lovers.

8. Slows Bar Bq

When a man who spent many years of his life sampling every sandwich on offer calls something “one of the greatest sandwiches in America”, you better listen up.

Detroit-based restaurant Slows has only been serving the iconic Yardbird sandwich since 2005, but that doesn’t make it any less legendary. Featuring mountains of bacon, smoked Amish chicken and cheese, this dish hits every spot.

9. Fong’s Pizza

Any adventurous diner will tell you that the best eats aren’t always traditional. Take, for example, the brilliantly bizarre General Tso’s Pizza at Fong’s.

An incredible combination of two of the country’s most beloved comfort foods, this delicious mash-up does exactly what it says on the tin.

It shouldn’t be possible to peak too early on a show that boasts the most mouthwatering restaurant line-up that TV has ever seen, but Season One’s trip to The Big Texan in Amarillo nearly managed it.

This world-famous steakhouse serves some of the finest beef going, including a truly intimidating 72-ounce steak challenge. The fact that Richman finished it in around 29 minutes is testament to its deliciousness.
